Corps synchronizes navigation lock outage reopening dates; Columbia-Snake NavLock system slated to reopen March 23

WALLA WALLA, Wash.  – The navigation locks currently closed for maintenance at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams in the Walla Walla District modified their reopening dates, Corps officials in the Walla Walla District announced, today.

Locks in the Walla Walla District previously scheduled to reopen on March 13 will reopen on dates that are synchronized with the return to service of John Day and The Dalles locks on the Columbia River and allow additional time necessary to ensure all work done during the outage meets the highest standards through quality control checks, while ensuring good fiscal stewardship.

Coordination with navigation industry officials indicated that no river traffic was scheduled to occur before March 17.  The Walla Walla District will consider adjustments if notified that this will cause currently unknown challenges for stakeholders.  The new reopening schedule is listed below:

The entire Columbia/Snake River system is scheduled to return to service for river traffic between Portland, Ore., and Lewiston, Idaho, when The Dalles navigation lock reopens on March 23.
