AHSAHKA, Idaho –  The public is invited to attend free nature-themed movie presentations at the Dworshak Dam Visitor Center theater during April, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials at the dam announced today.

These G-rated movies will be shown on the following schedule:

·  Friday, Apr. 1 – Grizzly Mountain (new at Dworshak VC theater).  Shows at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Two kids help save Grizzly Mountain from land developers.

·  Friday, Apr. 15 – Rascal.  Shows at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.  A young boy on summer vacation finds and adopts a wild raccoon and attempts to turn it into a pet.

·  Friday, Apr. 29 – Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey.  Shows at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Three lost family pets experience many adventures while finding their way back home through Western wildlands.  Much of the scenery is filmed on the nearby Joseph-area plains of Northeastern Oregon.

Prior to each movie, Dworshak Rangers will provide a 10-15 minute presentation about the wildlife or natural history depicted in the film.

“Watching these classic, nature-themed movies is a good way for families and children to get out of the house into the real world, where they can socialize, play in our visitor center, and foster a sense of natural resource stewardship,” said Dworshak Park Ranger Connie Grant-Howell.

While at the visitor center, movie-goers can explore the many educational and fun displays, including a water safety room where children can play in a boat, create water safety posters and try on life jackets.  Visitors are also welcome to eat their lunch at the covered picnic tables outside the visitor center, or visit nearby Viewpoint Day Use Area, which offers picnic tables, restrooms, a lawn area and a scenic overlook of the dam.

For more information about the movies, water safety, recreation opportunities and current conditions, call the visitor center during business hours at (208) 476-1255.
