Corps seeks public input on draft EA, FONSI for new Mill Creek office, maintenance buildings

Published Aug. 18, 2011

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District (Corps), invites the public to comment on its draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Mill Creek Flood Control Project New Office and Maintenance Buildings construction project.

The project includes construction of four buildings:

·   the near-70-year-old existing project office, located along side Mill Creek off Reservoir Road just east of Walla Walla city limits, will be replaced with a new 3,756 square feet project office

·   the existing maintenance building

·   a small public restroom near the office parking area will be replaced, and

·   a new three-bay vehicle/trailer covered parking area will be built

“The new office building will be located on an undeveloped piece of Corps-managed property near the existing office,” said Corps Project Manager Simeon Francis. “The existing structures will be removed and replaced with the new maintenance shop and new covered parking to protect Corps vehicles, trailers and other equipment used to maintain Mill Creek facilities.”

Francis added that the new office building will include ADA-compliant features, and is designed using LEED principles – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design which encourages the design and construction of sustainable facilities that reduce energy consumption and waste, both during construction and throughout the future use of the building.

The draft EA and FONSI for this project are available for viewing at the Corps’ website www.nww.usace.army.mil and the Walla Walla Public Library.
