Published Oct. 26, 2011

UMATILLA, Ore. – Brownell Road access to the Columbia River and ponds on the west side of the McNary Wildlife Nature Area will temporarily close to the public Oct. 27 through Nov. 25, operations officials at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ McNary Lock and Dam announced today.

The temporary access closure is necessary to ensure public safety while the Bonneville Power Administration conducts work on the transmission lines from the south side of the Columbia River to the north side. The lines that traverse the river will be replaced with new 500-kilovolt line.

Fishing enthusiasts are invited to explore other Corps outdoor recreation and fishing areas during this temporary access closure at the river. Check out Walla Walla District’s recreation website www.nww.usace.army.mil/corpsoutdoors.
