WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Lt. Col. Andrew D. Kelly assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, during a ceremony held in Walla Walla today.
Col. Robert A. Tipton, commander of the Corps’ Northwestern Division, officiated as Lt. Col. David A. Caldwell transferred command to Kelly. Caldwell served as the district commander for the past two years.
The Walla Walla District, established in 1948, encompasses more than 107,000 square miles in parts of six states – Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and Utah. It is a multi-faceted District responsible for providing hydropower, environmental stewardship, flood risk management and recreation opportunities and for maintaining a navigational channel in the Snake and Columbia rivers.
Kelly most recently served as the joint observer trainer for U.S. Joint Forces Command in Norfol, Va. Other prior assignments include: operations officer and executive officer for the 92nd Engineer Battalion at Fort Stewart, Ga., including a deployment to Sharana, Afghanistan; brigade combat team (BCT) engineer for the 1st BCT, 3rd Infantry Division, including a deployment to Ramadi, Iraq; and deputy resident engineer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Drum, N.Y.
