Employment Opportunities for College StudentsThe U.S. Army offers a variety of exciting opportunities to gain important career-related work experience prior to graduation. If you are interested in the challenging and rewarding field of government service, you have the opportunity to develop specialized skills that will prepare you for advancement in your chosen career field. Student programs are available to anyone enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student at an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school. About Student Educational Employment Program Opportunities The Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) provides work experience which is directly related to the student's academic program and career goals. This program allows managers the ability to evaluate the student's performance in real work situations. Students will have such flexibilities as year round employment and flexible work schedules and assignments. Students in the SCEP gain exposure to public service while enhancing their educational goals and shaping their career choices. Students in the SCEP may be non-competitively converted to term, career or career-conditional appointments following completion of their academic and work experience requirements. The Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) provides Federal employment opportunities to students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment as degree seeking students taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocational course load in an accredited high school, technical, vocational, 2 or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school. The STEP provides maximum flexibility to both students and managers because the nature of the work does not have to be related to the student's academic or career goals which benefits both agencies and students. Agencies can discover first-hand the abilities of a potential employee. Interested students in either of these programs are encouraged to email their cover letter, resume, education transcripts, and proof of at least half-time enrollment at an accredited high school, technical, vocational, 2 or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school at cenww-hr@usace.army.mil. For more information about the SCEP and STEP programs, please go to the USAJOBS website at www.usajobs.gov/ResourceCenter/Index/Interactive/Students#icc or the Federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) website on the subject at www.opm.gov/employ/students/QSAS.asp#eligibility. About the Workforce Recruitment Program The Workforce Recruitment Program for College Students with Disabilities (WRP) is a recruitment and referral program that connects federal sector employers nationwide with highly motivated college students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to prove their abilities in the workplace through summer or permanent jobs. The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and the U.S. Department of Defense's Office of Diversity Management & Equal Opportunity (ODMEO) manage the program, which continues to be successful with the participation of many other federal agencies and sub-agencies. Since the program's expansion in 1995, over 6,000 students and recent graduates have received temporary and permanent employment opportunities through the WRP. To be eligible for the WRP, candidates must be current, full-time undergraduate or graduate students with a disability, or have graduated within one year of the release of the database each December. For the 2013 WRP release, interviews will be held in the fall of 2012. A candidate who graduated in October, 2011, or later would still be eligible to participate. Candidates must be U.S. citizens. If you are an eligible candidate, share this information with your school's disability services or career services coordinator, and ask him or her to contact the WRP Coordinator at wrp@dol.gov. The WRP office works directly with college coordinators and cannot respond to inquiries from individuals. About Student Volunteer Program Federal agencies may offer unpaid training opportunities to students in high school and college. These opportunities provide work experience related to your academic program. The program allows you to explore career options as well as develop your personal and professional skills. As a student volunteer, you will be exposed to the Federal work environment and will learn about the missions and responsibilities of various Federal agencies and departments. |
