Research and Development

Research for improvements at the Dworshak National Fish Hatchery is being sponsored by the Corps of Engineers through the University of Idaho and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife through the University of Rhode Island. Research toward improved hatchery production includes new filter modification, ozone disinfection, gas supersaturation removal, abatement of stresses caused by the smolting process, modifying the shape and smoothness of rearing ponds, spawning methods, and mineral in diet.
