Research and Development

Research is being done at McNary Lock and Dam as part of a nationwide survey to investigate the effects of fluctuating water levels upon riparian shoreline and its vegetation. Construction and development of the facility includes digging an experimental pond measuring 100 feet by 600 feet, the installation of pumps and automatic timers, and the planting of shrubs and grasses.

Research is currently being done on computer programs to produce graphic, as well as tabular, streamflow projects that will allow rapid up-to-date evaluation of refill and flood control risks associated with various plans of operation.
