19-001 Maintenance work Jan. 7- 13 will require temporary closure of bridge crossing at Little Goose Dam

Published Jan. 4, 2019

STARBUCK, Wash. – Vehicle crossings at little Goose Lock and Dam, located at Snake River Mile 70.3 near Starbuck, Washington, will temporarily close Jan.7-13 to accommodate maintenance work on the upstream bascule bridge crossing the navigation lock, according to operations officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District.

Vehicular traffic on Little Goose Dam will resume on Monday, Jan. 14, 2019.

According to Lee Holmes, Operations Manager for Little Goose, traffic across the dam will be closed while maintenance is performed. “The drawbridge will be locked in the up position while we perform routine maintenance.”

Access to the south-shore tailrace fishing area, picnic area and river walk at the downstream end of the navigation lock remains open to the public, as well as Little Goose Landing, located one mile upstream of the dam. The nearest bridge across the Snake River is located about 8 miles northwest of Starbuck, Washington, on Highway 261, between Lyons Ferry Marina and Lyon Ferry State Park.

Travelers can call 1-888-DAM-INFO (1-888-326-4636) for the most current dam-crossing information at all three of Walla Walla District’s dams that allow public traffic to cross the Snake River in Washington: Lower Monumental, near Kahlotus; Little Goose, near Starbuck; and Lower Granite, near Pomeroy.

Little Goose's normal public vehicle-crossing schedule is slated to resume on Monday, Jan. 14 -- open for crossings once an hour, on the half-hour, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and closed on federal holidays, unless otherwise announced. Crossing times are 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 in the morning, and 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30 and 4:30 in the afternoon. Tour and school buses must contact the dam at 509-399-2233, extensions 227, 231 or 253, at least 24 hours in advance for crossing authorization.

Little Goose Lock and Dam produces hydroelectric power for homes and businesses, and facilitates commercial inland navigation traffic on the lower Snake River. It also provides recreational opportunities and incidental irrigation for local farmers. Follow Little Goose on Facebook for breaking-news announcements at www.facebook.com/LittleGooseDam.
