CLARKSTON, Wash. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District has banned alcohol at the Illia Dunes Recreation Area on Lake Bryan to curb alcohol-related safety hazards.
The decision follows a similar ban at Granite Point on Lower Granite Lake, enacted in May 2022 to address a rise in alcohol-related incidents, litter, and dangerous cliff jumping.
"Public safety is our top priority," said Megan Innes, natural resources manager for Lower Granite Lock and Dam. "Bans like this have proven effective at other locations, resulting in a better experience for everyone. This measure will allow our park rangers and law enforcement partners to reallocate resources more effectively and ensure our recreation areas remain safe and enjoyable for the families and visitors we serve."
The ban at both locations will help USACE and local law enforcement reduce the high number of alcohol-related complaints and incidents.
