13-034 Dworshak Visitor Center announces new summer season hours

Published May 16, 2013

AHSAHKA, Idaho – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Dworshak Dam Visitor Center staff announced new hours for the 2013 summer recreation season. The visitor center will be open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., beginning May 25 and continuing through Sept. 2.

During Memorial Day weekend, May 25-27, the Dworshak Reservoir elevation is anticipated to be near 1,590 feet, about 10 feet below full-pool level -- significantly higher than recent-past Memorial Day weekends. All shoreline campsites have been cleaned and are ready for use, and the higher reservoir levels will allow campers easier access to them from the water.

Higher water levels also release more floating woody debris from the shoreline, so watch boating speeds and keep an eye out for floating hazards. Boaters should make sure all required safety equipment is on board, including a lifejackets in good condition and of proper size for all on board. Be safe out on the water and wear your life jacket.

To get to the Dworshak Dam Visitor Center, travel five miles west of Orofino, Idaho, on state Highway 7; turn right onto Viewpoint Road and follow visitor center signs for about two miles; the visitor center is adjacent to the north dam abutment, located at North Fork Clearwater River Mile 2 on the north riverbank.

For more information regarding water levels, facilities access or recreation, call the visitor center at 208-476-1255, or stop by the visitor center.
