Rio Pierdas, located on the north eastern side of the island of Puerto Rico, was one of the many municipalities affected by Hurricane Maria. Kent Bernard, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contract specialist from the Walla Walla District headquarters in Walla Walla, Washington, encountered a variety of hurricane-placed road hazards while deployed to help FEMA’s temporary roofing assessment team in Puerto Rico from Oct. 18 to Nov. 28, 2017.
