Lieutenant Colonel ShaiLin KingSlack assumed the duties as the Commander and District Engineer of the Walla Walla District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on 8 July 2022. LTC KingSlack oversees more than 800 engineers and professionals from various functional backgrounds. LTC KingSlack is responsible for Civil Works, Interagency Programs and the Operations of USACE projects and activities for Eastern Washington, all of Idaho and portions of Oregon, Nevada, Wyoming and Utah. LTC KingSlack is a native of Elk Grove, California and received a commission through the United States Military Academy in May 2004.

LTC KingSlack started her military career in the 864th Engineer Battalion (Combat) (Heavy) in Ft. Lewis, WA as the Construction Officer in the operations shop. She deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in 2005 where she served as a Vertical Construction Platoon Leader. Following this assignment, she served as the Chief in the I Corps Central Tasking Office. She deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008 as the Engineer Equipment Officer in the 18th Engineer Brigade before taking company command of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 18th EN BDE at Tompkins Barracks, Germany.

After command, LTC KingSlack served as the Real Property Officer in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff Engineers, U.S. Army Europe responsible for coordinating real property maintenance, inventory and accountability of over $63M of real property under USAREUR. Soon after, she joined the USACE Europe District as a Project Engineer at Ramstein Air Base, Germany and also served as the Forward Engineer Support Team – Advanced Commander. She trained up and deployed the 14 member Europe District FEST-A to Jordan in support of CENTCOM Forward – Jordan to coordinate and conduct engineer assessments and technical expertise for all phase 0 requirements.

Following this assignment, LTC KingSlack served in the HQ, USACE as the Executive Officer to first the Deputy Commanding General of Military and International Operations, then the Deputy Commanding General, USACE. She served in Fort Belvoir in the 249th Engineer Battalion (Black Lions), USACE as the Operations and Intelligence Officer and then the Executive Officer. Afterwards, she was accepted into the Command and General Staff Fellowship Program and served in the Department of State, Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs in Washington, D.C. contributing analysis and input to the National Security Strategy, National Defense Strategy and Indo-Pacific Policy. Following this assignment, she served at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, CA as an Observer, Controller and Trainer for the Brigade Engineer Battalion staff. She last served as the Deputy Commander for the Portland District, USACE.

 

Her awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (6 awards), Army Commendation Medal (4 awards), Army Achievement Medal, the Afghanistan and Iraq Campaign medals and the Combat Action Badge. She is also the recipient of the Bronze Order of de Fleury Medal from the Army Engineer Association.

LTC KingSlack holds a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri Institute of Science and Technology (2008) and a Bachelor of Science in Chinese Mandarin and German from USMA (2004).

LTC KingSlack and her husband, Jonathan, have one son, Phoenix (2) and one daughter, Jade (5 months).
