Major Joe Collier assumed the role of Deputy District Commander, Walla Walla District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on 1 July 2023. Major Collier is responsible for management and oversight of several functions within the district as well as performing the duties of the Commander in her absence. He provides support, guidance and mentorship to district personnel.
MAJ Collier earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Military Academy where he commissioned in 2009. He holds an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business and a Masters of Science in Military Operational Studies from the Command and General Staff College. MAJ Collier is a graduate of the Command & General Staff Officer College, the Engineer Captains Career Course, and the Engineer Officer Basic Course.
MAJ Collier arrived from Fort Bliss, TX and the 1st Armored Division where he served as the executive officer of the 40th Brigade Engineer Battalion (BEB). Previously, he was assigned as the Operations officer for 40th BEB, the Division Engineer and Chief of Future Operations for 1st Armored Division.
His previous Corps experience includes assignments in Middle East District where her served as a project Manager in Jordan, managing O&M, MILCON, and FMS projects.
MAJ Collier has previously held positions at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson where he served as the commander of B Company, 6th Brigade Engineer Battalion (Airborne), Brigade Air Officer 4th Infantry Brigade (Airborne) 25th Infantry Division, and the Logistics Officer of 6th Engineer Battalion (Airborne). His initial duty station was White Sands Missile Range, NM where he deployed to Afghanistan as a Platoon Leader in 595th Engineer Company, 2d Engineer Battalion. He later served as a Company Executive Officer for 40th Mobility Augmentation Company.
His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal. He is authorized to wear the Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Pathfinder Badge.
MAJ Collier, his wife Gaby, and their son Colt enjoy spending their time in the community and enjoying all the great things Walla Walla and the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
