Engineers used computational fluid dynamics models to study flow conditions through the turbine and identify where there might be areas of turbulence or pressure. These models helped engineers understand the pressure conditions fish passing through the turbine might be exposed to, and allowed them to alter the design to meet pressure criteria that would be safer for fish.
