16-055 Lower Granite upgrades phone system

Published July 26, 2016
POMEROY, Wash. – Getting through on the phone to someone at Lower Granite Lock and Dam should be easier, now that its 1990s-era phone system is upgraded, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials at the dam announced today.

Walla Walla District communications staff installed 24 phone lines to replace five old, unreliable lines that were shared among about 80 employees. Callers trying to reach Corps staff at the dam often encountered busy signals and poor connections on the old system.

The dam’s primary phone number for official business and deliveries remains 509-843-1493, but with new auto-attendant instructions for reaching specific extensions or caller assistance.

The new phone system also allows direct dialing by calling 509-843- and a specific four-digit extension number. For example, to reach the Lower Granite Visitor Center, dial 509-843-2214.

Corps staff are in the process of updating Lower Granite phone numbers on Walla Walla District website pages and social media sites.
