TETONIA, Idaho – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District invites public comments on a draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Tetonia, Idaho, Water System Improvements Project. Comments are due to the Corps no later than Friday, April 21, 2017.
The Corps proposes to assist the City of Tetonia, Idaho, with upgrades to their municipal water system. The City’s full proposed action includes construction of a new secondary well, new well house, pump controls, equipment and generator, and new storage tank. The City also plans to service existing distribution lines, install additional distribution lines, install freeze protection for shallow lines, and add or install a total of 27 fire hydrants. All actions would take place within the City.
The Corps is not assisting the City of Tetonia with the entire proposed project. The Corps and the City have agreed the Corps would provide funding for completion of engineering design and a test well, and part of the construction of a new well and well house, along with related appurtenances to provide a backup well for the water system. Corps participation in this project is authorized under Section 595 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1999.
The Corps’ draft FONSI, attachments, and EID are available on the Walla Walla District website at http://www.nww.usace.army.mil/Missions/Environmental-Compliance/.
