WESTON, Idaho – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District invites public comments on a draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Weston, Idaho, Water System Improvements Project. Comments will be accepted from June 17, 2019 to July 18, 2019.

The Corps proposes to assist the city of Weston (city) with construction funding for the drilling of two test wells and a production well and well house. The Corps would fund project costs incurred by the government, i.e., the Project Partnership Agreement package preparation, design process reimbursements, design review, the Corps’ National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance and project management. Corps participation in this project is authorized under Section 595 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1999.

The city submitted to the Corps, the “Weston City Culinary Water Facilities Plan” to address potential effects associated with the project. The Corps had no role in the preparation of the Culinary Water Facilities Plan, but did undertake an independent review of the document and determined the information contained therein is accurate and satisfies the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) regulations, except as supplemented or explained in Section V of the Corps’ draft FONSI.

The Corps’ draft FONSI, which includes the City of Weston’s facilities plan as one of several attachments, is available for viewing or downloading on the Walla Walla District website at www.nww.usace.army.mil/Missions/Environmental-Compliance.

The Corps will accept public input June 17, 2019 to July 18, 2019. All information and comments submitted will be included in the permanent public record.

Public comments may be submitted electronically to the Corps using the online comment form on the webpage, or via email NEPANWW@usace.army.mil -- type “Weston 595” in the subject line. Written comments may also be sent via U.S. Postal Service, addressed to:
