Ahsahka, Idaho – Don’t miss your chance to see the inner workings of Dworshak Dam and the Powerhouse.  In honor of our 50th Anniversary, we will be offering powerhouse tours three times a day on Saturdays from June 17– July 29 (excluding July 1).

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operations staff and park rangers at the dam invite the public to join them for a tour which offers an up-close look at a hydroelectric plant as well as going into the dam and exploring an audit (horizontal tunnel) and riding the elevator up to the North Tower to take in the view.  The third tour of the day will also include a trip to the rock quarry to see where the aggregate for the concrete was excavated from the walls.

Tours will be available at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. by reservation only.   Reservations can be made by calling the Visitor Center at 208-476-1255.  When making a reservation please let us know if you have any special requirements or needs.

There will be a lot of walking so visitors should be sure to wear closed-toe, sturdy shoes while touring work areas of the dam.

Parking for the tour will be at the parking area near the fishing wall.

Visitors 18 years and older will need photo identification to enter the dam and be an American citizen.

Visitors will not be allowed to bring in purses, bags, cameras, cell phones, briefcases and similar items into secure areas of the dam. Also, no weapons are allowed in our facility. These items should be left in visitors’ vehicles. Visitor access at the dam is subject to change without notice.

Regularly scheduled tours of the dam will continue 7 days per week at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

For more information about this event, to make reservations for the tour or other recreational opportunities call Dworshak Dam Visitor Center, at 208-476-1255.
