U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS WALLA WALLA DISTRICT
Published April 4, 2024

Walla Walla, WA – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, is aware of a recent act of vandalism at Indian Memorial Park, located at the Ice Harbor Lock and Dam. The district condemns the vandalism, which defaced a significant cultural site, and is collaborating with law enforcement as they conduct an investigation into the vandalism.

Indian Memorial Park is a cultural site designated in 1965 to commemorate Tribal history in the region. This includes burial grounds and locations of significant cultural artifacts, such as petroglyphs, that are crucial to the heritage of local Tribal communities.

In response to this incident, a spur road near Shoreline Drive in Burbank, Washington, adjacent to the monument, has been temporarily closed as the Walla Walla District assesses damages and determines the options to restore the site.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers appreciates the public's support and cooperation as we work to resolve this matter and ensure the preservation of Indian Memorial Park's integrity and significance.
