USACE enacts additional seasonal fire restrictions

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District
Published June 24, 2024

The US Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District has implemented a seasonal ban on wood fires in all USACE fire rings, grills, and metal containers at Hood Park, Charbonneau Park and Fishhook Park. This is a preventive action to minimize the risk of human-caused fires during wildfire season and to protect public lands for continued recreational usage.

Previously enacted fire restrictions at USACE sites along the lower Snake River remain in place. This ban does not prohibit the use of contained charcoal and propane grills for cooking and heating. It's crucial for visitors to remember that fires on the ground or in rock rings are always prohibited on USACE-managed lands.

Visitors are encouraged to take extra precautions, not only with campfires, but also with other sources of ignition, such as cigarettes, vehicle exhaust systems and, where allowed, charcoal briquettes. Fireworks, including sparklers, are not allowed on any USACE lands at any time.

All visitors are asked to call 911 if they see problems or issues with fires or suspicious smoke.
