U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District
Published Aug. 8, 2024

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District is overseeing logging operations at Dworshak Dam and Reservoir’s Dent Recreation Area.

With as many as 25 logging trucks entering and leaving the area daily, visitors utilizing the boat ramp at Dent Recreation Area are advised to go slow and be aware of their surroundings. Those with access to a CB radio can utilize it to monitor logging trucks announcing their arrivals and departures. The appropriate CB channel will be posted on the road into Dent.

The primary goals of this project are wildlife habitat enhancement, improved forest and tree stand health, and a reduction in hazardous trees and wildfire fuels. The Dent Acres Campground, closed for August and September during the repaving project, will now also be closed through October to accommodate logging operations while the campground is unoccupied. A projected 1400 loads of logs are expected to be removed from the recreation area over the next three months.

Visitors who wish to avoid the congestion and issues at Dent are encouraged to use any of the other boat launch sites around Dworshak Reservoir including Big Eddy, Bruce’s Eddy, Grandad and Dworshak State Park’s Freeman Creek. For more information on conditions at Dworshak Reservoir please call the Dworshak Dam Visitor Center at (208) 476-1255.
