The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District has approved a permit for Perpetua Resources Idaho Inc. to discharge dredged or fill material into waters of the United States during construction of the Stibnite Gold Project in Idaho, following a review under the Clean Water Act.

“We arrived at our decision after an extensive, multi-year review of the proposed project, including thorough evaluation of the environmental impact studies, and its effects to waters of the United States,” said Lt. Col. Kathryn Werback, Walla Walla District commander. “USACE staff collaborated closely with federal and state officials and consulted with Tribal governments throughout the process.”

The approval of the permit does not authorize mining activity. This permit regulates discharges from construction activities into wetlands and streams, their potential consequences, and requires compliance with federal regulations and consideration of public interests. The permit includes special conditions ensuring no work will proceed until the U.S. Forest Service – the project’s lead agency – finalizes the applicant’s plan of operations.

The Walla Walla District’s regulatory mission reflects its commitment to protecting the nation’s water resources and navigation capacity, regulating activities affecting waters of the United States and wetlands in Idaho through fair and balanced decisions that allow for reasonable development.
