Seasonal drawdown for Lucky Peak to begin Aug. 18

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District
Published Aug. 14, 2025

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, and the Bureau of Reclamation will begin gradually lowering the pool elevation of Lucky Peak Reservoir for the season on Monday, Aug. 18.

Over the coming weeks, Lucky Peak Reservoir will reach a winter pool elevation of approximately 2,945 feet in preparation for next runoff season. The drawdown will be adjusted in real time depending on future irrigation demand and precipitation.

This year’s drawdown is occurring at a historically typical time. As water levels decrease, recreationists should be aware of boat ramp elevations, as the drawdown will ultimately impact recreation access.

The Boise system, comprised of Anderson Ranch, Arrowrock, and Lucky Peak dams, is at 65% total capacity. Average carryover is projected for the Boise River system reservoirs at the end of the irrigation season.
