AHSAHKA, Idaho – Visitors are invited to attend free nature-themed movie presentations at the Dworshak Dam Visitor Center theater during July, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials at the dam announced today.
Selected movies will be shown at 11 a.m. on Saturdays as scheduled below:
· Saturday, July 7 – Gentle Ben - a boy protects a friendly black bear named Ben. A 2002 made-for-television production, not rated by the Motion Picture Association of America.
· Saturday, July 14 – Gentle Ben 2 - the continuing outdoor adventure story about a boy and a friendly black bear. A 2003 made-for-television production, not rated by the Motion Picture Association of America.
· Saturday, July 21 – Over The Hedge - an animated comedy about hungry critters that wake up from hibernation to find human development in their habitat. This movie is intended for older kids and is rated PG, Parental Guidance suggested – contains some mild, rude humor.
· Saturday, July 28 – Wall-E - a futuristic story about a dying Earth which a kindly robot tries to save. Rated G, for General Audiences.
Prior to each movie, Dworshak ranger staff will provide a 10-15 minute presentation about the wildlife or natural history depicted in the film. Dworshak staff would also like to invite the public to explore the many educational and fun displays at the visitor center, including a water safety room where children can play in a boat, create water safety posters and try on life jackets.
Visitors are also welcome to eat their lunch at the covered picnic tables outside the visitor center, or visit nearby Viewpoint Day Use Area, which offers picnic tables, restrooms, a lawn area and a scenic overlook of the dam. Big Eddy Day Use Area also offers a playground, picnic tables, and hiking trail where families can enjoy the spring weather by recreating before or after viewing a Saturday movie at the visitor center.
Theater seating is limited to the first 50 guests. All children 16 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the movie.
