Lower Granite navigation lock schedules five-hour closure to access electrical equipment

Published Oct. 27, 2011

POMEROY, Wash. – Lower Granite Dam’s navigation lock will close to all river traffic for five hours on Wednesday, Nov. 2, from noon to 5 p.m., according to operations officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District.

The temporary lock closure will provide maintenance workers with a lockage-free time frame during which they can access electrical panels to conduct evaluations essential for fabrication of new equipment to match existing. The new equipment to be fabricated is part of a project to upgrade the emergency diesel generator backup for the navigation lock.

Operations officials do not anticipate that this temporary navigation lock outage will affect public vehicle crossings at the dam. However, travelers should keep in mind that suspension of dam crossings may be implemented at any time for extended periods due to operational needs, maintenance or construction-related activities or a change in security conditions at a dam. Travelers can call 1-888-DAM-INFO (1-888-326-4636) for the most current dam-crossing information.

Public Notices and other navigation lock information are available on the Walla Walla District website at www.nww.usace.army.mil/html/offices/op/t/navdata/default.html.
