Corps conducts maintenance on John Dodge, Boat Ramp levees

Published Nov. 1, 2012

JACKSON, Wyo. – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, is conducting routine maintenance and repairing deficiencies resulting from past years of seasonal flooding on two levees within the Jackson Hole Levee Project, a system of many levee sections that provides flood-risk management benefits to communities along the upper Snake River near Jackson, Wyo.

Work to remove vegetation and replace protective rock material on the approximately 4-mile-long John Dodge Levee started on Wednesday, Oct. 24. The John Dodge Levee is situated along the west bank of the Snake River beginning near the Gros Ventre River confluence and ending downstream near the State Highway 22 Bridge. Maintenance repairs will also occur on the Boat Ramp Levee, located immediately south of the John Dodge Levee.

The Corps contracted with Westwood Curtis Construction, of Jackson, Wyo., to perform the work on both levees. The work is slated for completion in late-November.

There are approximately 23.5 miles of federally constructed levees within the Jackson Hole Levee Project.  Since 1978, more than $360 million in potential flood damages have been prevented by the system.
