14-034 Dworshak Visitor Center announces new summer season and dam tour hours; Full-service and primitive camping also available

AHSAHKA, Idaho – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Dworshak Dam Visitor Center announced new hours and dam tours for the 2014 summer recreation season. The Visitor Center will be open seven days a week starting on Saturday, May 24, on Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Dam tours will be offered daily at the Visitor Center starting May 23 through Labor Day weekend. Start times for dam tours are at 9:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 2:30 p.m. at the Visitor Center.

To get to the Dworshak Dam Visitor Center, drive five miles west of Orofino, Idaho, on state Highway 7. Turn right on to Viewpoint Road and follow Visitor Center signs for about two miles. The Visitor Center is adjacent to the north dam abutment, located at river mile two on the north riverbank of the North Fork Clearwater River.

Camping with full hook-up sites is available at Dent Acres Campground for $18 per night. Reservations can be made by calling the national Recreation.gov service at 877-444-6777 or by visiting their website at www.recreation.gov.   

With the reservoir filling from one to two feet per day, primitive mini-camps along the reservoir shoreline will be usable and available on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge. Grandad, Dam View and Canyon Creek primitive campgrounds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge. Currently, boat ramps are open and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at Big Eddy, Dent Acres, and Bruce’s Eddy #1.  For updated water level and boat ramp information, call 800-321-3198 or 208-476-1255. 

When boating on the reservoir, please use caution because lake levels can change quickly. Always wear a Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device.
