WALLA WALLA, Wash. – As part of its environmental stewardship mission, the Walla Walla District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites public comments until April 2, 2015, on the draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Environmental Assessment (EA) for “Mosquito Control Activities Licenses for Benton County, Franklin County, Columbia and West Umatilla Mosquito Control Districts (MCD).”
The Corps proposes to issue licenses to each of four mosquito control districts to conduct county mosquito control activities on Corps-managed federal lands in Benton, Franklin and Columbia counties in Washington state, plus Umatilla County in Oregon. Issuance of the licenses provides necessary authorization for MCDs to operate on Corps-managed lands; mosquito control activities comply with appropriate statutory and environmental requirements; and mosquito control activities are compatible with the Corps’ overall pest management program and objectives.
The public comment period runs through April 2, 2015. Public comments must be postmarked, hand-delivered or e-mailed no later than April 2, 2015, to be considered as part of the public record. Comments should be mailed to: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, CENWW-PD-EC – MCD License, 201 North 3rd Avenue, Walla Walla, WA 99362-1876. E-mail comments should be sent to NEPANWW@usace.army.mil.
The draft FONSI and EA are available on the Walla Walla District website at http://www.nww.usace.army.mil/Missions/EnvironmentalCompliance.aspx. Click on the link on the right-hand side of the page for “McNary Pool Mosquito Control Districts Licenses.”
