Bennington Lake closed to boating effective immediately in support of Blue Creek aerial firefighting operations

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – For safety of boaters and firefighting helicopters, Bennington Lake at the Mill Creek Project of the Walla Walla District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is closed to all boating and boat launching effective immediately. The closure is in support of firefighting helicopter operations to draft water from the lake for suppressing the nearby Blue Creek Fire east of Walla Walla. The Bennington Lake boating restriction is in effect until further notice.

No boats or watercraft of any kind are allowed on the lake because boats may interfere with helicopter operations. The public may continue to use recreation facilities on the shore at Bennington Lake and at Rooks Park. Drivers are cautioned to remain aware of emergency vehicle traffic in the Mill Creek area as firefighting efforts continue.
