KIMBERLY, Idaho – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the City of Kimberly, Idaho, Wastewater Collection System Improvements Project.
The Corps will assist the city of Kimberly, Idaho, with its Wastewater Collection System Improvements Project, which involves digging trenches (often referred to as “open-cut”) and replacing approximately 2,590 linear feet of deteriorating sewer pipe. The project is being done under Section 595 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1999 for which the Corps is authorized to participate in environmental infrastructure projects. Specifically, the Corps will provide funding to assist with design, environmental documentation, construction administration, and construction costs.
The City of Kimberly prepared an Environmental Information Document (EID) to address potential effects associated with implementation of the wastewater collection system improvement project. After an independent review of the city’s EID, the Corps found it to provide both sufficient evidence and analysis to meet the Corps’ requirements pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and has accepted and incorporated it as part of the Corps’ NEPA documentation. As part of NEPA compliance, the Corps solicited public comments on its draft FONSI Sept. 28 through Oct. 12, 2016.
