Lucky Peak Dam Recreation Area

No entrance fee for single vehicles. Boat trailer parking is $5/day or a $40 annual pass is available (May 15–Sept 15). America the Beautiful passes are accepted; Idaho State Park passes are not.

Fire Restrictions: Lucky Peak is under Stage 1 fire restrictions year-round.

Traveling north, passing through high canyon basalt cliffs along the Boise River, you will cruise past two Lucky Peak State Park Units, Sandy Point and Discovery. Continue up Highway 21 and make a right onto the dam. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by beautiful Idaho mountains on your left and a panoramic view of Sandy Point on your right. The views don’t stop there—continue on to the Dam Recreation Area and discover just how lucky you are to be here! Lucky Peak Dam Recreation Area is our largest and most popular recreation area managed by USACE at Lucky Peak Lake.  It is comprised of Barclay Bay, Turner Gulch, Lydle Gulch, Middle Cove, and Foote Park.

Barclay Bay: At Barclay Bay you’ll find Barclay Beach, Middle Cove, and a large boat trailer parking area connected to the first boat ramp providing access to Lucky Peak Lake. Dogs are not allowed at the swim beach to help maintain cleanliness and safety. Seasonal park hosts are often on site to assist with annual passes, provide information materials, and answer questions. Please note the Barclay boat ramp is tpically available from June through late August.

Turner Gulch: This area consists of a small boat trailer parking lot with lake access via boat ramp. It is the longest boat ramp at Lucky Peak and, weather permitting, normally remains useable year-round despite lake level fluctuations.

Lydle Gulch: The trailhead of Lydle Gulch offers a starting point for hiking, biking, and equestrian enthusiasts with primitive roads connecting to adjacent public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, as well as connecting to the Oregon National Historic Trail. Disc golf enthusiasts will also find two primitive 20-basket courses open most of the year.

Middle Cove: Several picnic sites with shade canopies serve this small area located adjacent to Barclay Bay.  Highly popular with picnickers, swimmers, and divers, arrive early to secure a spot! Boating is restricted to paddlecraft only in this cove for safety, marked by several buoys.

Foote Park: A designated interpretive site featuring the Arthur and Mary Hallock Foote House historic area. This area offers opportunities for a self-led local history lesson, fishing the river, exploration of the basalt cliffs, and beautiful south facing canyon and riparian area views along the Boise river.

Please consider the following when planning a trip to Lucky Peak:

  • Wood/charcoal fires only in agency-provided grills.
  • No rock fire rings or ground fires.

  • Propane/liquid-fuel stoves are allowed.
