  • 17-015 Mill Creek Levee phase-2 maintenance resumes; trails will intermittently close for visitor safety

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Warmer weather conditions may allow contractors to resume levee-maintenance activities next week on the south side of the federally managed section of the Mill Creek Levee System, requiring intermittent closures of the gravel trails, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials announced today. Contractors will likely be onsite this weekend to stage equipment and place safety barriers.

    Travelers should plan alternate routes across river at ‘LoMo’ and Little Goose dams on Feb. 20 holiday LOWER SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – If your upcoming Washington’s Birthday weekend plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams on the river in Washington are closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic on federally recognized holidays, unless otherwise announced. Lower Granite Lock and Dam, near Pomeroy, Wash., will be open for public vehicle crossings from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Feb. 20 holiday. However, Walla Walla District operations officials want to remind the public of the Washington’s Birthday holiday closure on Monday, Feb. 20, affecting two of three dams that normally allow public vehicle crossings – Little Goose, near Starbuck, Wash.; and Lower Monumental, near Kahlotus, Wash. Little Goose and Lower Monumental are normally open Monday through Thursday, but will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20, for the holiday.

  • 17-011 - Lower Columbia River boaters should be on lookout for extra ice below McNary Lock and Dam

    UMATILLA, Oregon – Boaters on the lower Columbia River downstream of McNary Lock and Dam should be aware of dangers of extra ice chunks flowing downstream into the river from the north shore Washington fish ladder beginning today and lasting for the next 7-10 days, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials announced. The dam and fish ladder are on the Columbia River just upstream of the I-82 McNary Bridge near Umatilla, Oregon.

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District invites public comments on a Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Corps' proposed “Dworshak Long-Term Nutrient Supplementation Program.” Public comments are being accepted from Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, through Monday, Feb. 27, 2017.

  • 17-008 Corps seeks public input on proposed Section 408 for ODOT bridge-replacement project

    MILTON-FREEWATER, Oregon – The Walla Walla District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) seeks scoping comments from the public regarding the Corps’ proposal to grant permission pursuant to 33 United States Code Section 408 (Section 408) for potential alteration to a Corps-constructed river improvement (public work). The Corps plans to grant Section 408 permission to the Milton-Freewater Water Control District to allow the modification of the Walla Walla River Flood Control Project (levee system) by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to replace the structurally deficient Birch Creek Road Bridge.
  • 17-007 Bruces Eddy road temporarily closed for safety; chains recommended on View Point Road

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – Vehicles access to Bruces Eddy recreation area, located on the shoreline of Dworshak Reservoir in Ahsahka, Idaho, is temporarily closed because of extremely hazardous road conditions, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) officials at the Dworshak Natural Resources Management Office announced, today. Overnight freezing rain creating slick road conditions, prompted park rangers to close ‘A’ Road. They also strongly recommend vehicles be equipped with chains on their tires when traveling on the steep-sloped View Point Road, leading to and from the Dworshak Visitor Center and Big Eddy marina, boat ramp and day-use area.

    CLARKSTON, Wash. – Vehicle access to Chestnut Beach recreation area is temporarily closed because of hazardous road conditions, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) officials at the Lower Granite Natural Resources Management Office announced, today.
