• Corps finds no significant impact to Stahl H.B. Farms and JSH Farms modifications to existing river intakes and fish screens in Umatilla County, Ore.

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District has completed an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the “Stahl H.B. Farms and JSH Farms River Pumping Stations: Fish Screening and Intake Modification Project.” District leadership signed a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on Jan. 29. This completes environmental review under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Corps completes Portneuf River Flood Reduction Project periodic inspections

    POCATELLO, Idaho – The Portneuf River Flood Reduction Project, Systems 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, which is operated and maintained by the City of Pocatello, received overall system ratings of “unacceptable” following their most recent U.S. Army Corps of Engineers periodic inspection reports finalized on Nov. 16, 2012. This project was originally constructed on Sept. 19, 1967.
  • Public comment period extended for draft Programmatic Sediment Management Plan Environmental Impact Study

    The Walla Walla District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the public comment period for the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Lower Snake River Programmatic Sediment Management Plan (PSMP) to March 26, 2013. This extends the previous comment deadline of Feb. 8.
  • Small electrical cabinet fire at Ice Harbor power house short-lived

    Two small fires occurred inside two generator exciter cabinets in the power house at Ice Harbor Lock and Dam at about 9 a.m. this morning, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials. There were no injuries.
  • Lower Granite open for vehicle crossings on Monday holiday; Travelers should plan alternate routes across river at ‘LoMo’ and Little Goose dams

    Lower Granite Lock and Dam, near Pomeroy, Wash., will be open for public vehicle crossings on the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. Walla Walla District operations officials want to remind the public of the holiday closure affecting two of three dams in Washington that normally allow public vehicle crossings – Little Goose, near Starbuck, Wash.; and Lower Monumental, near Kahlotus, Wash.

  • Corps announces Jan. 24 Lewiston (PSMP EIS) public meeting location

    CLARKSTON, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District will hold an open house and public information meeting regarding a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Lower Snake River Programmatic Sediment Management Plan (PSMP) on Thursday evening, January 24. The meeting will be in the Clearwater Room of the Williams Conference Center at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, located at the northeast corner of 4th Street and 9th Avenue.     WALLA WALLA, Wash. – If your upcoming Christmas and New Year’s holiday plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that most U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams are closed to public traffic on federal holidays.

    CLARKSTON, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District is inviting public comments on a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Lower Snake River Programmatic Sediment Management Plan (PSMP). Comments on the draft EIS will begin to be accepted on Friday, Dec. 21, when an official notice is expected to be published in the Federal Register, and are due to the Corps no later than Feb. 8, 2013.
  • Mill Creek Office parking lot temporary closures to occur Dec. 11-12

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Vehicle and pedestrian access to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Mill Creek Office parking area will be closed intermittently on Tuesday, Dec. 11, and Wednesday, Dec. 12, to allow contractors to place asphalt in areas associated with the new public restroom installed there last week.
