    LORENZO, Idaho – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers emergency responders completed flood-fight operations yesterday, May 22, to stabilize a section of the Heise-Roberts Levee System, on the Snake River near Lorenzo, Idaho, according to USACE Walla Walla District emergency managers.

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Four levees damaged during the 2017 flood season, located within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District area of operations, received a total of approximately $3.3 million in cumulative funding for flood-related repairs under Public Law 115-123, the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, signed into law February 9, 2018.

  • 18-049 Corps awards contract for emergency Heise-Roberts Levee repair

    LORENZO, Idaho – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a contract today to conduct temporary emergency levee repairs on an eroded section of the Heise-Roberts Levee System, located on the Snake River near Lorenzo, Idaho, about 3.7 miles downstream from the U.S. Route 20 bridge. The contractor’s crews and equipment are in the process of mobilizing to the site to begin work. Hydraulic and civil engineers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Walla Walla District deployed to Jefferson County on May 16, 2018, to provide emergency-management assistance to Jefferson County, Idaho, and help stabilize the levee.

  • 18-047 Corps sends assistance team to conduct emergency levee repair in Idaho’s Jefferson County

    RIGBY, Idaho – An U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hydraulic engineer and a civil engineer from the Walla Walla District Headquarters deployed today in response to a request from Jefferson County emergency managers for help with emergency levee repairs. High-flow conditions in the Snake River are eroding a segment of the Heise-Roberts Levee System, about 3.7 miles downstream from the U.S. Route 20 bridge. Immediate emergency repairs are necessary to prevent further erosion which poses a threat to the structural integrity of the levee and about 65 homes located within the leveed area, near Lorenzo, Idaho. The Corps’ engineering experts will assist county emergency management staff by assessing the levee damage, determining appropriate emergency protective measures, and coordinating and supervising construction-contract work to repair the levee.

    PULLMAN, Wash. – After significant cleanup during the past week, the Walla Walla District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reopened the Granite Point recreation area on the Lower Snake River today.

  • 18-045 Bennington Lake return canal slated for cleaning, repairs; intermittent trail closures may occur

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Cleaning and repairs on the Bennington Lake return canal, located between the lake’s storage dam and Mill Creek, near the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ project office, will require temporary and/or intermittent closure of some public areas, starting Monday, May 14, through mid-June.

  • 18-043 Lower Granite Dam offers ‘behind-the-scenes’ guided tours

    POMEROY, Wash. – Visitors at Lower Granite Lock and Dam can get behind-the-scenes tours of the powerhouse, navigation lock and fish passage facilities – areas ordinarily off-limits to public access, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials announced today. Tours are offered Saturdays and Sundays at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. through Oct. 31.

    PULLMAN, Wash. – Granite Point day-use area is closed until further notice due to health and safety concerns after recent heavy visitation, trash accumulation and vandalism, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials announced today.
