  • 17-077 Corps seeks public input on proposed Section 408 for Connell water line replacement project

    CONNELL, Washington – The Walla Walla District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) seeks public scoping comments regarding the Corps’ proposal to grant permission for potential alteration to a Corps-constructed levee in the City of Connell, Washington. Pursuant to 33 United States Code, Section 408, Corps permission for the City of Connell’s water line replacement project is necessary because the project has the potential to alter the Esquatzel Coulee Flood Risk Reduction Project, a levee system which was constructed by the Corps on the Esquatzel Coulee, a seasonally dry streambed.

  • 17-076 Snowpack receding; Dworshak Reservoir on track for early fill

    AHSAKAH, Idaho -- Receding snowpack in the Clearwater sub-basin prompted reservoir managers to shift their focus from seasonal flood-risk-management to recreation-fill operations at Dworshak Reservoir, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers water-management officials at the Walla Walla District. During a Wednesday snow line flight of the North Fork Clearwater Basin, reservoir managers observed a firm snow line at or above 6,000 feet in the basin -- about 4 percent, or less, of snow cover across the sub-basin. That significant reduction in snowpack, led managers to reduce discharges from Dworshak Dam and begin refilling the reservoir on Thursday. The reservoir is already within 1 feet of full-pool elevation (1600 feet).

    STARBUCK, Wash. -- Little Goose Dam's navigation lock, located at Snake River Mile 70.3 near Starbuck, Washington, will experience delays in lockages June 19-22, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials in the Walla Walla District.

  • 17-073 - Corps program may provide rehabilitation assistance to damaged flood risk management facilities; requests due by July 31

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Sponsors of flood risk management projects within the Walla Walla District which were damaged by spring flooding events may find some help repairing their levees and related structures from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers if they submit their request for assistance by July 31, according to Corps emergency management officials.

    HAILEY, Idaho – A two-person team from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District Headquarters is providing technical assistance to emergency managers in Hailey, Idaho, as they respond to flooding conditions there, according to Corps emergency management officials at the District headquarters in Walla Walla, Washington.

    KENNEWICK, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District invites public comments on a draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Feasibility Study/Environmental Assessment (FS/EA) for the Clover Island Ecosystem Restoration Project. Comments on are due to the Corps no later than Thursday, July 6, 2017.

    The President’s Budget for fiscal year 2018 (FY 2018) includes $5.002 billion in gross discretionary funding for the Civil Works program of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps). "The fiscal 2018 Civil Works budget for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reflects the administration's priorities to support and improve the nation's economy and infrastructure, and to protect the American people," said Mr. Doug Lamont, senior official performing the duties of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. "This Budget supports the core mission areas of coastal and inland navigation, reducing flood risks from riverine flooding and along our coasts, and restoring aquatic ecosystems.”

    SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – If your upcoming Memorial Day weekend plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that most U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams are closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic on federal holidays, unless otherwise announced.

  • 17-069 Dworshak Dam Visitor Center announces new summer season Visitor Center and tour hours

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – Summer is just around the corner, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like you to know that Dworshak Dam Visitor Center will be open seven days a week starting Friday, May 26, the beginning of Memorial Day weekend, through Labor Day weekend. The Visitor Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tours of the dam will be offered daily at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Tours are limited to 8 people, and photo identification is required.
