    17-104 Walla Walla District deploys seven more employees to support hurricane-response missions

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Seven more U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District employees deployed during the past week to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) hurricane response and recovery efforts, according to District emergency management officials.

    Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 30

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 30. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters. Other agencies and partners that manage recreation areas located on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to comply with this waiver of day use fees in the areas they manage.

    17-103 ‘On-request’ lockage service begins Sept. 16 for recreational boaters on Snake, Columbia rivers

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Beginning Saturday, Sept. 16, recreational boaters can lock past U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams on the lower Snake and Columbia rivers almost any time during daylight hours, navigation officials with the Corps’ Walla Walla District announced.

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – A public affairs specialist from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District deployed today to support the Corps’ South Atlantic Division Emergency Operations Center in Atlanta, Georgia, as they prepare for Hurricane Irma’s anticipated landfall in Florida, according to District emergency management officials.

    17-098 Lower Granite open for vehicle crossings on Monday holiday; Travelers should plan alternate routes across river at ‘LoMo’ and Little Goose dams

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – If your upcoming Labor Day weekend plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that most U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams are closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic on federal holidays, unless otherwise announced.

    17-097 Walla Walla District deploys emergency power team to support FEMA’s hurricane-response mission in Texas

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Eleven U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District employees are deploying to Texas in response to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) request for emergency-power assistance to support Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts, according to District emergency management officials. Yesterday, the District Headquarters in Walla Walla, Washington, deployed a Hydrology and Hydraulics Branch civil engineer to Dallas, Texas, to support the Corps Southwestern Division’s emergency operation center as a water-management subject matter expert.
