  • 18-003 Walla Walla District employees’ volunteer spirit helps hurricane-struck Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District employees continue volunteering to support hurricane-recovery efforts in response to Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) requests for support, according to District emergency management officials. Eight District volunteers are currently deployed in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, supporting FEMA missions that provide emergency temporary power, manage storm debris disposal, assess damaged critical infrastructure, provide temporary housing and roofing, restore power grid capability and logistics-management services for FEMA’s various planning and response teams (PRTs). About 90 FEMA-requested hurricane-related deployment positions, nicknamed “taskers,” have been filled by District volunteers, since late-August.

  • 18-002 Little Goose navigation lock to temporarily close Jan. 17

    STARBUCK, Wash. – Little Goose Dam’s navigation lock will be closed to all vessel traffic from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17. The temporary closure is necessary to provide safer conditions for divers working on the dam’s trash shear boom near the vicinity of the lock, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials at the dam.

  • 18-001 Little Goose crane work temporarily closes dam to vehicle crossings; Lower Granite, Lower Monumental holiday crossing schedules announced

    LOWER SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – Vehicle crossings at Little Goose Lock and Dam, located on the lower Snake River near Starbuck, Washington, will be temporarily closed Thursday, Jan. 11, through Tuesday, Jan. 16, to accommodate work on the fish ladder cooling water pump installation project. Other Corps dams on the lower Snake River that allow vehicle crossings have announced their schedules for the Monday, Jan. 15, Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday federal holiday: Lower Granite Lock and Dam, near Pomeroy, Washington, will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for public vehicle crossings; Lower Monumental Lock and Dam, near Kahlotus, Washington, will be closed.

    MILTON-FREEWATER, Ore. – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers levee safety officials met yesterday, Dec. 12, with levee managers from the Milton-Freewater Water Control District (MFWCD) to inform them of a recent screening-level risk assessment of the Milton-Freewater Levee Project on the Walla Walla River.

    LOWER SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – If your upcoming holiday plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams on the river in Washington will be closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic on the Christmas and New Year’s Day federally recognized holidays.

    LOWER SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – If your upcoming Thanksgiving plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams on the river in Washington will be closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic. Lower Granite, near Pomeroy; Little Goose, near Starbuck; and Lower Monumental, near Kahlotus, will be closed to public vehicle crossings on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 23. Lower Granite will reopen for crossings on Friday, Nov. 24, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • 17-117 Mill Creek Levee paved trail and Rooks Park reopen; Levee maintenance work completed

    WALLA WALLA, WA - The paved trail on the north side of the federally managed section of the Mill Creek Levee System and pedestrian access to Rooks Park reopened this morning, Monday, Nov. 20, following the completion of Phase-2 work to remove overgrown vegetation which encroached into the levee’s maintenance-access zone, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials announced today.
