    16-072 Sand Station Recreation Area campsites to be closed Oct. 1 for beach and campground reconstruction

    UMATILLA, Oregon –Sand Station Recreation Area campsites near Umatilla, Oregon, will be closed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until further notice on Sunday, Oct. 1, to reconstruct beach and camping areas. The beach has been severely eroded by waves from the reservoir during the past several years. Day use of Sand Station will be allowed during construction. Restrooms will remain open.

    16-071 Dworshak offers timber sale to improve forest health

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – The Walla Walla District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, invites interested parties to bid on the sale of approximately 77 acres of timber on Corps-managed forest lands at Dworshak Dam and Reservoir in Clearwater County, Idaho. The timber sale is planned to remove mainly Grand fir and Douglas fir that are infected with root rot, heart rot and fungus, as well as beetle infestation in the area east of Canyon Creek Campground in Section 8, 9, and 17 of T37N, R02E, Boise Meridian.

    16-070 Corps invites public comments on draft FONSI for Kimberly Wastewater Collection project

    KIMBERLY, Idaho – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District invites public comments on a draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the City of Kimberly, Idaho, Wastewater Collection System Improvements Project.” Comments will be accepted beginning today, Sept. 28, 2016, and are due to the Corps no later than Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016.

    16-069 Ice Harbor navigation lock repairs to temporarily slow lockage times

    BURBANK, Wash. – Work on a tainter valve in Ice Harbor Dam’s navigation lock will temporarily cause increased lockage times Sept. 26 to Dec. 12, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers navigation officials at the Walla Walla District.

    16-068 Corps responds to inadvertent oil spill; 10-20 gallons released into Clearwater North Fork

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – An oil spill occurred at Dworshak Dam at about 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, 2016. An estimated total of 10-20 gallons of light-grade turbine oil was inadvertently released from hydroelectric generator Unit-3 into the North Fork of the Clearwater River as the generator was being prepared by contract workers for disassembly and rehabilitation. The exact quantity is being determined as clean-up operations continue.

    16-065 Lower Granite open for vehicle crossings on Monday holiday; Travelers should plan alternate routes across river at ‘LoMo’ and Little Goose dams on Labor Day

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – If your upcoming Labor Day weekend plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that most U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams are closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic on federal holidays, unless otherwise announced.
