Army Corps of Engineers seeks public comments on on proposal to renew and revise nationwide permits

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today it is seeking comments on its proposal to renew and revise 50 nationwide permits for work in wetlands and other waters that are regulated by Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899. In addition, USACE is proposing to issue two new nationwide permits that pertain to authorizing the removal of low-head dams and the construction and maintenance of living shorelines.

16-032 Construction work to temporarily close Chestnut Recreation Area

CLARKSTON, Wash. – Public access to the Chestnut Recreation Area will be closed May 31 through mid-August to accommodate construction activities, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials at the Lower Granite Natural Resource Management Office in Clarkston.

16-031 Lower Granite Dam offers ‘behind-the-scenes’ guided tours

POMEROY, Wash. – Visitors at Lower Granite Lock and Dam can get behind-the-scenes tours of the powerhouse, navigation lock and fish passage facilities – areas ordinarily off-limits to public access, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials announced today. Tours are offered Saturdays and Sundays at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. through Oct. 31.

16-030 Lower Granite open for vehicle crossings on Monday holiday; Travelers should plan alternate routes across river at ‘LoMo’ and Little Goose dams

Walla Walla District operations officials want to remind the public of the holiday closure affecting two of three dams in Washington that normally allow public vehicle crossings – Little Goose, near Starbuck, Wash.; and Lower Monumental, near Kahlotus, Wash.

16-029 Corps awards navigation lock repair contract; work to occur during system-wide 2016-2017 extended lock outage

STARBUCK, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a contract May 9, 2016, to a Spokane, Washington, company to conduct repairs to the downstream navigation lock gates at Little Goose Lock and Dam on the lower Snake River.
