  • 20-016 Dworshak Dam postpones opening campgrounds

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Dworshak Dam Ranger staff announces that Dent Acres campground, as well as Canyon Creek and Dam View campgrounds will not open for the season in April as planned. Due to minimum staffing and for visitor safety during this COVID-19 outbreak, Dworshak staff has been directed to postpone opening the campgrounds until a later date. At this time, we cannot give a specific date when the campgrounds will open.

  • 20-015 Army Corps of Engineers modifying operations at recreation areas due to Coronavirus

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it has begun the orderly shutdown of all USACE-managed campgrounds to protect against the further spread of coronavirus disease 2019. Visitor centers, beaches, special events, and USACE-sponsored events such as shore sweeps, interpretive programs, Kids to Parks Day, Earth Day events, public meetings and other public gatherings at all USACE-managed sites and facilities have also been closed and/or put on hold until further notice.

    Clarkston, Wash. – The Lower Granite Natural Resource Management (NRM) staff will be restricting access to their office in Clarkston in response to the COVID-19 situation.

    Walla Walla, Wash. –At this time, the Corps of Engineers will close all Visitor Centers in the Walla Walla District.

    Portland, Oregon - Evolving health and safety policies from our regional partners designed to hinder the spread of COVID-19 in Washington and Oregon have prompted federal officials to replace all scheduled in-person public comment meetings with phone-in meetings for the recently released Columbia River System Operation draft Environmental Impact Statement.

    Walla Walla Wash. - The Walla Walla River basin's rain-on-snow event resulted in historic flows on most streams and rivers in the region. In the aftermath of the flood event, officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Walla Walla District shifted their focus from flood fighting to helping restore some of the surrounding flood effected areas.

  • 20-010 Columbia and Snake river navigation locks will close March 7 for annual maintenance

    COLUMBIA & SNAKE RIVERS, Ore. & Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Portland and Walla Walla districts will close all Corps navigation locks on the Columbia and Snake rivers March 7 at 6 a. m. for regularly scheduled annual inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs.

    CLARKSTON, Wash. – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be implementing a new fishing platform at Evans Pond, located at Snake River Mile 134, downriver from Clarkston.

  • 20-008 Dworshak announces Visitor Center Schedule Change

    AHSAHKA, Idaho –Dworshak Dam Visitor Center will be temporarily closed to accommodate staff-training requirements from March 23-27 and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on March 30.

  • 20-007 Corps to celebrate E-Week with ‘Safe Egg Passage' contests in local Walla Walla, College Place and Tri-Cities area schools

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (Corps) Walla Walla District will sponsor Engineering Week competitions at seven different schools in the valley and Tri-Cities as part of National Engineers Week (E-Week) February 16-22.
