    Dredging to meet current “immediate need” to re-establish federal navigation channel to Congressionally authorized dimensions WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District on Friday awarded a $6,745,150 contract for maintenance dredging of the lower Snake River federal navigation channel and associated berthing areas at the Ports of Lewiston, Idaho, and Clarkston, Wash. The contract was awarded to American Construction Co., Inc., of Tacoma, Wash., as a small business set-aside contract.

    Records of Decision signed for long-term, comprehensive plan plus “immediate need” action of dredging WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Following intensive U.S. Army Corps of Engineers review and consideration of extensive public comments, the Corps’ Northwestern Division Commander, Brig. Gen. John S. Kem, signed two Records of Decision (RODs) today, Nov. 14, for 1) the Lower Snake River Final Programmatic Sediment Management Plan (PSMP) and 2) a current “immediate need” action (dredging), to reestablish the congressionally authorized dimensions of the Lower Snake River federal navigation channel. The RODs are based on consideration of reasonable alternatives and evaluation of potential environmental effects contained in the PSMP Final Environmental Impact Statement (PSMP FEIS). Signing of the RODs marks completion of the Walla Walla District National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review process.

    If your upcoming Veterans Day weekend plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that most U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams are closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic on federal holidays, unless otherwise announced.

    Water discharge from Dworshak Dam near Orofino, Idaho, will temporarily fluctuate on Thursday, Nov. 6, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. while U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff run tests on hydroelectric generator Number 2, which recently underwent maintenance, operations officials at the dam announced today.

    PASCO, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Walla Walla District (Corps), invites public comments on the Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Environmental Assessment (EA) for issuance of an easement to Pasco, Wash., for the installation of a new water intake structure. Comments are due no later than Nov. 20.
  • 14-081 Cyclo-cross races Sunday may affect Rooks Park trail traffic

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Allegro Cyclery Cyclo-cross Race will be held at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Rooks Park on Sunday, Oct. 26, according to Corps officials at Mill Creek Dam and Bennington Lake. The first of many races begins at 9 a.m., and the last race starts at 2:50 p.m. Although Rooks Park will be open to walk-in visitor traffic, about 75 percent of the area will be occupied for race activities under a special-use permit.

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Work to remove the old Mill Creek Project office will require temporary closure of a small portion of the Mill Creek Office parking lot beginning Monday, Oct. 6 through mid-November, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials announced today.
