  • 16-084 Mill Creek Levee phase-2 maintenance begins Thursday; trails will intermittently close for visitor safety

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The gravel trails on the south side of the federally managed section of the Mill Creek Levee System will be intermittently closed to all visitors starting Thursday, Dec. 1, to accommodate levee-maintenance activities, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials announced today.
  • 16-083 Lower Monumental Dam closed to public vehicles Dec. 1 through Jan. 7

    KAHLOTUS, Wash. – Public vehicle traffic across Lower Monumental Lock and Dam will be temporarily suspended Dec. 1, 2016, through Jan. 7, 2017, while maintenance crews clean river debris from the turbine intake trash racks, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, operations officials at the dam.
  • 16-082 Dam crossings closed on Thanksgiving; Lower Granite open Friday for vehicle crossings

    LOWER SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – If your upcoming Thanksgiving plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams on the river in Washington will be closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic. Lower Granite, near Pomeroy; Little Goose, near Starbuck; and Lower Monumental, near Kahlotus, will be closed to public vehicle crossings on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 24. Lower Granite will reopen for crossings on Friday, Nov. 25, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • 16-081 Corps investigating loss of approximately 200 steelhead just below Dworshak Dam

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – During the past week, approximately 200 dead adult steelhead have been discovered in the tailrace just below the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Dworshak Dam on the North Fork of the Clearwater River. The exact cause of the mortalities is still under investigation by the Corps, but initial information points to steelhead injuries associated with non-routine upgrades of the Dam’s turbine unit 2, specifically new digital governor commissioning.

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – If your upcoming Veterans Day weekend plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that most U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams are closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic on federal holidays, unless otherwise announced.

    HAGERMAN, Idaho – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District invites public comments on a draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the City of Hagerman, Idaho, Wastewater System Improvement Project. Comments are due to the Corps no later than Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016.

  • 16-077 Corps prepares for Phase-2 Mill Creek Levee maintenance

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Visitors using the gravel trail on the south side of the federally managed section of the Mill Creek Levee System in Walla Walla, Washington, will likely encounter surveyors through the afternoon on Friday, Oct. 21, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials at the Mill Creek Project Office announced today. Workers will be surveying the levee in preparation for Phase-2 of levee maintenance. While the trail will remain open during surveying activities, visitors should be aware of equipment and vehicles in the area.
