    18-071 Corps signs FONSI to rehabilitate Waitsburg Levee flood

    Waitsburg, Washington – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on July 9, 2018, to repair the Waitsburg Levee System along the Touchet River in Walla Walla County, Washington. The levee was damaged by sustained high flows during the 2017 flood season.

    18-070 Corps signs FONSI to rehabilitate Heise-Roberts Levee flood damage

    RIGBY, Idaho – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on June 29, 2018, to repair several sections of the Heise-Roberts Levee System along the Snake River in Jefferson and Madison counties, Idaho. The levees were damaged by sustained high flows during the 2017 and 2018 flood seasons.

    18-067 Lower Granite open for vehicle crossings on Wednesday holiday; Travelers should plan alternate routes across river at ‘LoMo’ and Little Goose dams

    LOWER SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – If your upcoming Independence Day holiday plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that most U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams are closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic on federal holidays, unless otherwise announced.

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – Water discharges from Dworshak Dam near Orofino, Idaho, will temporarily fluctuate today, June 27, and likely through the weekend, as contractors conduct a series of tests on hydroelectric generator unit number 3, in preparation to return the unit to service.

    18-065 Public comment period extended for draft revised Lower Granite Project Master Plan, EA; comments now due July 10

    POMEROY, Wash. – In response to requests from stakeholders, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Walla Walla District, extended the public comment period for the draft revised Lower Granite Project Master Plan, and accompanying draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) and Environmental Assessment (EA). Planners added two weeks to the public review period, which now runs from June 5 through July 10.

    18-063 Corps advises public not to drink from nor swim in shoreline waters near Chestnut Recreation Area because of water-testing results

    CLARKSTON, Wash. – The Walla Walla District of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers advises the public to not swim in or drink shoreline river water near the Chestnut Recreation Area after routine weekly testing results showed elevated levels of fecal coliforms in shoreline river water. As a precaution, warning signs will be posted near the Chestnut Recreation Area’s shoreline.
